Judith Skinner describes her work as slices of color. She uses polymer
clay to express her love of color, pattern and form. Her palette ranges
from soft, subtle blends to vibrant metallic tones. Coming soon to Longmont,
Colorado to work on her upcoming book with Sarajane Helm entilted "Designing Quilts In Polymer
Clay" , she has agreed to take a break from the photographs
and have a ONE DAY SPECIAL CLASS!
In this special Skinner Blend PC Potpourri Students will work
with her using the techniques of the calla series, the crescendo series,
and an adaptation of '... in the wind' using the skinner blend for all.
(Space is limited to 12 students, so sign up at 303.678.9966 soon!)
Judith shares her discoveries and signature techniques at polymer clay
guild workshops and retreats around the country. She is known in the world
of polymer clay for developing the technique of smooth color gradation
known around the world as the "Skinner Blend".
In an earlier life she was a computer software engineer. Then her clients
were bankers, city planners, firefighters and police officers, TV meteorologists
and newscasters, rocket scientists, artists and musicians. She later combined
artistry and technology as a multimedia consultant and producer.
When Judith first discovered polymer clay in 1995 she reversed her priorities
and now uses her problem solving abilities to enhance her artistry. She
lives in a mountain log cabin in Prescott, AZ and raises Welsh Springer
Spaniels in her spare time--when she's not creating, writing, and promoting
the work for which she is rightfully well known.
Judith will also be exhibiting some of the featured pieces that will
be seen in the upcoming book. These use intricate quilt patterns made using
the ancient glass technique millefiore "thousand flowers".
The jewelry Judith creates has a sense of whimsy and frivolity with
just a hint of order and geometry. Her jewelry designs are composed of
sculpted, draped and hand-formed bits of clay creating pieces ranging from
delicate pendants to flamboyant neckpieces.
Bead Lounge is pleased to feature her signature jewelry line including
the evocative Calla Lily in luminous colors. During the month of May, our
feature spotlight will be on polymer clay. Judith Skinner, Sarajane and
Bryan Helm, and many other well known polymer clay artists will have work
displayed at Bead Lounge all month long---so come in and see!
